Tonight's game against cross-border rivals the Toronto Maple Leafs will start a little later than normal as the Sabres are retiring #16 in honor of the reat Pat LaFontaine. I'm loathe to admit this but my best memories of Patty were in both a Team USA and Isles sweaters more than the Blue and Gold. His career was ending as my reaquaintence with the game was just beginning. So, in no way am I qualified to talk about his contributions to the history of the Buffalo Sabres.
All I can see of Patty is his reflection in the eyes and words of those who saw him play and I get the feeling that I missed out on something quite extraordinary. So, for once, I'll be brief and I'd ask for those regular readers of this space to take a moment and leave a comment with your favorite Lafontaine moment/memory... I would greatly appreciate it.
In the meantime, I'm looking forward to the ceremony tonight... granted, of course, that Center Ice carries it.
Ta,
